Designed for the Work of the Garden

The No.448 Garden & Gather Apron was designed around the way people actually work in a garden: carrying tools, moving between beds, harvesting what is ready, and cleaning up as they go.

A traditional work apron protects your clothing and keeps tools close, but gardening presents another problem—what to do with everything you collect along the way. We designed the No.448 so the apron itself could become part of that process.

Gather, Harvest & Clean Up

The defining feature of the No.448 is built directly into the apron. Snap the two lower corners upward and the front of the apron becomes a large gathering pouch, leaving both hands free while you work.

Use it to collect vegetables, fruit, herbs, and cut flowers as you move through the garden. During pruning, weeding, and seasonal cleanup, the same pouch becomes a convenient place for weeds, spent blooms, leaves, clippings, and other garden debris.

Instead of repeatedly reaching for a basket or bucket, you can gather as you go. When you're finished, simply unsnap the corners over a harvest basket, compost pile, or yard-waste bin and empty the contents.

Unsnap the corners and the pouch disappears, returning the No.448 to a traditional full-length garden apron.

Why Waxed Canvas

Gardening puts different demands on an apron than cooking or studio work. Damp soil, wet foliage, rough stems, tools, and repeated contact with the ground all informed our choice of material.

We use 10 oz. waxed cotton canvas because it combines durability with water resistance without being unnecessarily heavy. The waxed surface helps protect against damp vegetation and soil while developing character through use.

Unlike a synthetic coated fabric, waxed canvas changes with time. Creases, marks, and variations in the wax become part of its surface, creating a patina particular to the person wearing it. This is an apron intended to get dirty, get used, and become better with age.

The No.448 is built with the same approach we bring to our work aprons: durable materials, straightforward construction, and components chosen with longevity in mind. Full-grain leather details and solid brass hardware complement the waxed canvas body, while practical pockets keep frequently used garden tools close at hand.

Each No.448 Garden & Gather Apron is cut and sewn in small batches at our Omaha, Nebraska studio.

It's more than protection from dirt and wear. The No.448 is designed to function as part of the work itself—carrying tools on the way out, gathering the harvest, collecting debris during cleanup, and carrying the evidence of a day spent in the garden.
