An Everyday Crossbody Built to Carry More

The No.503 Crossbody is designed and handmade in our Omaha, Nebraska studio as an everyday bag with more capacity and organization than its straightforward profile suggests.

Built from substantial 14 oz waxed canvas, Horween vegetable-tanned leather, and raw solid brass hardware, the No.503 combines the hands-free convenience of a crossbody with the organization and carrying capacity needed for work, travel, and everyday use.

Stitched equestrian-style leather handles give you the option of carrying it by hand, while an adjustable leather shoulder strap allows the bag to be worn comfortably over the shoulder or crossbody.

A full-width metal YKK zipper securely closes the main compartment. When you want the bag open, the entire zippered placket folds down flat against the outside of the bag, moving the zipper out of the way and creating a wide, unobstructed opening to everything inside.

Five Pockets for Everyday Organization

The No.503 has two spacious exterior pockets for the things you want within easy reach and three additional pockets inside.

The largest interior pocket closes with a snap and is generously sized for an iPad, documents, notebooks, or laptops up to approximately 14 inches. A 14-inch laptop fits comfortably while remaining separated from the rest of the main compartment.

Two additional interior pockets provide dedicated space for smaller essentials, while the open main compartment leaves plenty of room for everything else you carry throughout the day.

Five pockets in total give the No.503 meaningful organization without turning the interior into a maze of compartments.

Materials That Get Better With Use

We build the No.503 from materials selected not only for durability, but for what happens to them after years of handling and use.

The shell is made from 14 oz waxed canvas. As it is carried, waxed canvas develops creases, burnishing, and variations in tone. These aren't flaws to hide—they're part of the character of the material.

The bottom is made from Dublin vegetable-tanned leather from Horween Leather Company in Chicago. It is one of the finest leathers we've worked with and provides a substantial foundation for the bag. Like the waxed canvas, Dublin leather develops greater depth and character as it ages.

Handles and shoulder straps are cut from substantial leather selected to complement each canvas colorway. Slate / Burgundy bags use latigo leather, while Field Khaki / Brown bags use full-grain strap leather.

A note about latigo leather: Latigo is richly dyed and conditioned, and exposure to water or heavy moisture may cause some color transfer. Avoid wearing or resting wet latigo leather against light-colored clothing or skin until the leather has completely dried.

Solid Brass, Not Brass-Plated Hardware

Every rivet and piece of brass hardware on the No.503 is raw solid brass.

That distinction matters.

Much of the brass-colored hardware used on bags is plated base metal. With enough use, that thin surface finish can eventually wear through or flake, revealing the base metal underneath.

Solid brass doesn't have a decorative brass-colored coating to wear away—the hardware itself is brass. It begins relatively bright and gradually develops a deeper, rich golden patina through handling and exposure.

Paired with waxed canvas and vegetable-tanned leather, it means the No.503 isn't designed to remain looking untouched. The materials are intended to age together and become more distinctive with use.

Made in Omaha

The No.503 Crossbody is cut, sewn, and assembled in small batches in our Omaha, Nebraska studio.

ARTIFACT has been making durable sewn goods in Omaha since 2010. We approach an everyday bag with the same standards we bring to our work and utility products: substantial materials, purposeful organization, repairable construction, and components selected for years of use rather than a single season.

Waxed canvas, natural leather, and raw brass are materials that develop character with use. Expect the canvas to crease and burnish, the leather to deepen in color, and the brass to develop a rich golden patina over time.

The Slate / Burgundy No.503 uses latigo leather for the handles and shoulder strap. Latigo is richly dyed and conditioned, and exposure to water or heavy moisture may cause some color transfer. Avoid wearing or resting wet latigo leather against light-colored clothing or skin until the leather has completely dried.
